Company profile

Full Spectrum Diagnostics, PLLC was founded in July of 2000 by Dan Ambre. Dan has over 25 years of vibration testing and rotor dynamics analysis experience from the aviation, aerospace, paper, power, and textile industries.

He began his career Sundstrand Corporation in Rockford, Illinois performing vibration testing and rotor system diagnostics on their aviation product lines. He developed skills in modal testing and condition monitoring that prepared him for his next career challenge with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach, Florida. Dan progressed to the level of Lead Structural Engineer for upper stage rocket engine programs at P&W’s Space Propulsion Division.

Dan stepped into the consulting business in 1996, accepting a position with Technical Associates. His background prepared him for performing advanced vibration diagnostics including Modal, Operating Deflection Shape, and Time Waveform Analyses. As a Level III Certified Seminar Instructor, Dan has extensive experience teaching Introductory through Advanced Vibration courses utilizing effectively all condition monitoring data collection products (Entek, SKF, CSI, Commtest, Ludeca, Diagnostic Instruments, DLI). Expertise in multiple vendor platforms allows Full Spectrum Diagnostics to implement vibration Condition Monitoring programs for customers using virtually any data collection system.

Full Spectrum Diagnostics specializes in Experimental Modal Analysis and Operating Deflection Shape Analysis of industrial machinery, foundations and equipment support structures. FSD is partnered with Vibrant Technology, Inc. and provides software training for their ME’scope Animation Software applications. The Introduction to Modal and ODS Analysis course offers insights into Modal and ODS analysis techniques from a field perspective. This training emphasizes the proper use of the ME’scope software, as well as a practical interpretation of dozens of new ODS and Modal analysis animations performed by FSD every year throughout industry.

In 2003 Full Spectrum Diagnostics rolled-out its core Vibration Analysis training series with Introduction to Vibration Analysis, Vibration Analysis Level I and Vibration Analysis Level II Certification courses in accordance with PdM guidelines set forth by the American Society of Non Destructive Testing (ASNT).

In 2009 Full Spectrum Diagnostics expanded its course offerings with Vibration Analysis Level III Certification courses to its agenda. The Practical nature of these Hands-On Vibration Certification course is designed to keep pace with future ASNT certification guidelines requiring hands-on testing methods and techniques. FSD will be partnering with V-TEK Associates for this course. V-TEK will provide all of the Machinery Vibration Analysis Trainer equipment to support the training exercises.

In 2009 Full Spectrum Diagnostics increased its training agenda with specialty courses with Concentrated Time Waveform Analysis, Concentrated Phase Analysis, and Practical Vibration Analysis. In 2009 Concentrated Rolling Element Bearing and Gear Analysis was added, as well as Implementing A Successful PdM Program.

FSD also provides Rotor Dynamics analysis and testing with the XLrotor software created by Rotating Machinery Analysis, Inc. From pumps to fans to turbine generators we can analytically predict the rotor critical speeds and their associated mode shapes. This information can be crucial for determining critical speed margin, or detecting the onset of rotor instabilities that may impact production or power generation capabilities. Many times this design information is controlled by the OEM and not openly provided to the end user, creating the environment for some “less informed” decision-making situations. When the analytical modeling of the rotor system is coupled with shaft orbit analysis and spectral maps of start and shutdown transients, an enhanced diagnostic of the rotor system will emerge. With this analysis in-hand a more informed solution is typically attainable.
